Hey Luke

Your book covers are on the right track!
As for the character, you need to worry much more about construction of the anatomy and costume, in my opinion. There's no point in trying to render or fiddle in details, if the "skeleton" isn't right.

Im really liking the book cover work you've done. You managed to very closely capture the style Richard showed us in his vid. Good job!

Now to the chick :P

TBH, i think you should revert her head position to the raised position. The original head position is what really won me over because to me it felt like she had 'attitude' lol.

Hi Luke

Notice how the left image is much more pleasing due to being more graphical, with the shapes in the right place.
I know you probably used a Cutout filter to achieve this effect, and that's ok, but it would be worth learning how to achieve that sorf of visual without the aid of photoshop wizardry!

yup. It looks too photoshoped. I was really just trying to fix a few nagging placement issues. Hopefully I can get a good look after more rendering.

That dragon pic a couple of posts up is great!

The only thing that I think you need to be more aware of, is that multi-lined brush you seem to like to use. Maybe its just me but maybe you could go over some of these areas with a different type of brush.
And I know looking for new brushes can be boring when you're trying to get a piece done lol.

For myself I've kept the types of brushes to a minimum (I've got 4-5 that i've been using practically all of my recent pieces) that will help me achieve different effects;

- a block-in brush (oval shaped), which i tend to switch back and forth the opacity dynamics.

- 2 texture brushes

- and another texture-type brush with colour dynamics enables, which I usually just feed off of all the colours it paints. Dont really use too often, but just to change it up a bit.

thanks george... yeah still trying to find a good core brush group.

 

 

Here is a quick guy I did whilst watching kekai. If you squint your eyes and turn your head it looks like something kekai might have crapped out when he was 12.
