Here some quick notes on this guy. The strong lighting on one side of the figure does not lend itself well to showing the form of the character. I toned down the lights and added some more rendering to the opposite side. The top knot I enlarged because I thought it would lend itself to a more exciting figure. I copy/pasted some of the armor bits to suggest some ways you might go about the rest of the armor set. Also I thnk the end of the spear could use a bit more excitment to the shape. Hope this helps.

Man... I don't know how to render form... I feel like I have some good Ideas but can't execute them due to my lack of 'hand skills'

This last pose is very energic, I like it!

About rendering, I don't think I'm the best person to talk about it, but I can assure you that it has nothing to do with "hand skills". Its more about your pool of knowledge of how things react to light, of the structure of things, etc. :)

Here are some more images. (photo ref used on some) . I also took a few minutes to sketch over the spear guy with the suggestions. I feel like the burn/dodge tool is a bit unweildy for me yet. I need more practice.

Hey Luke,

I really like your upper right enviro thumb of post #9. It has kind of a neat rhythm to it and interesting vantage point to me.

The only thing I noticed really in that one is that the lights/darks in the midground could be pushed a bit more to really punch your eye directly to the architecture/cityscape. :)

Here are some enviro from me. The first is a small step, but it needed some color. The process Tom showed is pretty awesome, but I am not sure how he begins to colorize/render from his monochromatic stage. Any help here would be appreciated.  Also... It seems my environments arebecoming very similar and cliche...  not sure how to fix that.

omg this last chick! push through and finish it for me please lol!

I think you should redo the waiste cloth thing so that it looks more flow'y and interesting. her eyes look to far apart for my liking also lol. I think if you tweaked these 2 things b4 the final piece, it would look epic.
